When I bought my Galaxy S4, I wanted to make sure that I had the best protection available. I started with the Defender, then "upgraded" to the Preserver. First of all, there is no rubber cover on the outside. I prefer to have the rubber outer part because it provides protection for the expensive cae, as well as the expensive phone. Second, There is no holster. I like the holster, on the Defender, because I can use it to provide further screen protection, as well as using it as a kickstand. Third, and most irritating, the watertight screen is applied on the outer facing part of the cover. This has caused it to begin fraying and coming off, after just a couple of weeks of carrying it in my pocket. I think the screen should be applied to the inside of the case, so the edges are protected. This would make it so that the watertight screens wouldn't fray. If it had the holster, like the Defender, this would not be an issue, because you could protect the screen from contact with your pants. I carry my phone, in my pocket, with the holster covering the screen and the clip facing the outside. This protects the phone better, and makes it easy to get out of my pocket. I did not have any issues with the sound, as a lot of others have reported, but I expected a lot better, for such an expensive case. I have returned my Galaxy S4 to the safety of my Defender case, and hope that they will fix the quality issues with the Preserver. My only problem with the Defender is that it is not waterproof. On a side note, I have noticed that Otterbox seems to put a lot more thought into the cases they make for the iphones. They cases they make for the iphones look nicer, and they have more options. Not sure why, since the Galaxy and the iphone cost about the same, and are both extremely popular.
Pros: decent protection
Cons: Low quality, Not durable

Does this case work with the Galaxy S4 proximity sensor?

When you are on a phone call and place the phone to your ear, does the screen come back on when you take the phone away from your ear?
Yes, it does.

Can I use the ir sensor on the top of my phone without taking the case apart? As I use it as a remote control often.
