I started using the Otterbox Defender cases when I got my first iPhone 3GS. That case was fantastic! When I upgraded last year to the iPhone 4s, I had no doubt that I wanted Otterbox to protect my new phone. I like the case, however, with the 4s case, the skin does not hold it's shape like the previous one does. it streches and cracks and the flaps don't stay closed. My son got an iPhone 5s in February with an Otterbox Defender, This series case seems to have corrected the skin problem in that it's made with a different material. This seems to have solved the problem. This case still protects the phone from drops, however because of the skin problem, it does not protect against moisture. That is the only down side I have with this case.
Pros: High quality, Durable
Cons: outer skin streches

Does the Otterbox have to have the belt clip on it?

Can it be removed even if it is purchased? I dont really want it but it seems like it is attached.
You don't have to have the clip attached. It takes a little work, but it can be detached. I rarely use my clip (I keep mine in my pocket). To take it out, you lift up on the top part of the belt clip and pull the phone away from the clip.
